2003 Large Business of the Year

Meijer 157, Miami Township, is involved in many varied community events with area schools, civic clubs, and church activities, including programs involving senior citizens. Brent O. Bradford, Store Director, and his staff are honored as Large Business of the Year for their continued support of “Seniors Luv Tuesday Mornings” at Meijer hosted by Meijer team member Bill Knepp. The Tuesday morning program was implemented four years ago with fifteen seniors coming together to play Bingo. Today, from 150 to 200 guests gather instead for a meaningful life experience. Director Brent O. Bradford wanted more than just a Bingo game at the Meijer 157 store. The vision for the Tuesday morning programs took the shape of an event where old and new friends could meet, and share in activities that would enhance their quality of life. To that end, programs of interest were planned to touch upon education, entertainment, history, government, safety and health, and nutrition. Local historians and county, state and national government officials contributed their time and expertise to several of these programs. All of this being made possible by the Meijer 157 team. Every Tuesday morning during the year, except holidays and Election Day, a complimentary continental breakfast is served. More than 10,000 breakfasts are served each year, and over the last four years approximately 35,000 guests have participated. Five months ago, a once a month homemade comfort lunch event was started. To date, more than 2000 seniors have enjoyed the friendly Meijer 157 environment along with Bill Knepp’s cooking. |
