CHEMICALS
THAT POLLUTE THE MILL CREEK
The
Mill Creek is a non-source point pollution creek, meaning that we cannot
identify where the pollution comes from. Only pollution-tolerant fish and
other species such as sludge worms, bloodworms, and leeches can survive in
the Mill Creek. When we get a lot of rain, it all flows into storm drains
and if enough go in, it over flows and all the chemicals are dumped in the
Mill Creek, polluting it. As a result, the area smells bad and pollutes
near creeks that run into it such as Cooper Creek. For many years, people
drank from the Mill Creek and causing people to get sick. Another chemical
that is very bad for humans is mercury, as well as high amounts of lead,
and petroleum. Also when you use weed killer, you might as well be
polluting the Mill Creek. Household hazards include oven cleaner, drain
cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, abrasive power cleansers, ceramic tile
cleaner, mildew remover, glass, window, mirror cleaners, dishwasher soap,
furniture polish, silver polish, and brass and copper cleaners. Some
recreational hazards include, boating, air and jet skis, and all terrain
vehicles.
